Wacky Pest Wednesday: Termites

 In News

Happy Wednesday to all you Tri-County Pest Control fans, and welcome to our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday!  Today, we invite you to join us as we cover a tiny critter that can bring huge consequences: termites.

Termites are among one of the worst pests that you can find in your home, hands down.  They absolutely love to eat wood and believe it or not they have an insatiable appetite.  That being said, if they were to be paired with the foundation of your home, you’re certainly in for a rough time.  To make matters worse, despite their size, termites are pretty intelligent, and the continue to fascinate scientists on their ability to alert the rest of the colony when danger is present—something that they’ve perfected over the past 130 million years.  Needless to say, thanks to this warning mechanism and the danger they pose, messing around with DIY pest control to take care of a termite infestation may not be the best move.

Did you know that termites are blind?  Except for the colony’s king and queen (the queen looks really gross, so feel free to search for images of one in your free time), all other termites are blind, using their sense of sound to move around and take direction.  Pretty neat, huh?

One of the easiest ways you can detect a termite infestation is by noticing termite “tubes” around your home—long, skinny tubes which the termites use to travel.  Also, if you can hear an infestation—and believe us, if it’s really bad you can hear an infestation—you need to call a professional company right away to take care of it.  Luckily enough, we here at Tri-County Pest Control have been dealing with termites for quite a while, so know that you’ll be in good hands when you turn to us for help.
