Resolutions for a Pest-Free 2019
Out with the old 2018, and in with the new 2019! We hope that you all had a splendid holiday season, are we are incredibly excited for the new year. As you sit there planning all of the changes that you are striving to make in the new year, we hope that having a pest-free home is one of them. Luckily enough for you, with a few small things you can make it a reality, and you may find it to be the easiest of your resolutions!
- Tackle the Messes
We all know that pests are attracted to messes—especially sticky, sweet messes in the kitchen—so one simple resolution that you can take up to keep the pests out this year is to give your kitchen a weekly cleaning. Nothing fancy or extravagant, but just a quick vacuum and mop each week should be enough to keep the pests out. In addition, make cleaning up right after dinner a priority if it’s not already, as pests can smell left-out food and crumbs from miles away.
- Weekly Weatherstripping Checks
Another very easy task you can take up is to check the condition of your weatherstripping and screens once a week. Due to temperature changes throughout the year, your weatherstripping may crack, tear, and simply break down, which will create a small hole for pests to come through. With frequent checks, you can replace the broken-down defenses before pests even get the idea of crawling through.
- Two-in-one benefits: Yard Work
Speaking of cost-effective pest control, another easy way for you to keep pests at bay is to stay on top of your yard work throughout the year. Specifically, the name of the game here is to never let greenery come too close to your home. Critters like termites and beetles will use plants as cover to get near your home, and if there is an opening by these plants, they will certainly find a way into your home. Do yourself a favor and be sure to remove all shrubbery that is actively touching your exterior when the weather gets warmer, and to trim any branches when they get too close to your home. Believe us: not only will your home look better, but you’ll be actively working to deter pests from coming inside.
The new year gives everyone a clean slate, so why not use it to make a better home? Stick to these very simple tips in 2019, and we can promise that you’ll greatly reduce the chance of having an infestation later on.
From our family to yours, we wish you all the best in this coming year!
