Wacky Pest Wednesday: Silverfish

 In News

Happy Wednesday to all you Tri-County Pest Control fans and welcome to our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday!  Please join us as we give you a close look into silverfish!

Some may call them bristletails and others may call them firebrats, but no matter what you call them, silverfish are a type of pest that you may come across in your bathroom from time to time.  No, you won’t catch them swimming around in your toilet, but you may find them scurrying along the ground, trying to find the darkest and dampest place that they can find. Believe it or not, they’re pretty good at finding those spots, as over 400 million years of existence have taught them a thing or two.  In case it’s been a while since you’ve brushed up on your prehistoric history, 400 million years is about 150 million years before the first dinosaurs are thought to have lived on Earth. That being said, silverfish are among one of the longest living creatures on this planet!

Now, all those years have taught silverfish the best ways to act, but they have also taught them the best way to survive.  Pesticides in a can have done some wonders in the past to take care of your average silverfish problem, but they are quick learners and so some pesticides are not as effective as they once were.  If you have trouble spraying them out, you may be inclined to starve them out, but that unfortunately won’t go very far either—silverfish can live up to a year without food and they are anything but a picky eater.  Indeed, anything from pasta to toothpaste is fair game, and in the course of a year, they are bound to find one thing or another that they will happily devour.

So, if you come across one of these critters in your bathroom, pick up the phone and give us a call.  Silverfish may be able to outlast some DIY remedies, but they are no match for the professionals at Tri-County Pest Control.  In no time, your silverfish problem will be history.
