Wacky Pest Wednesday: Silverfish
Happy Wednesday to all you Tri-County Pest Control fans, and welcome to our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday! Please join us as we give you some of the fun and wacky facts about silverfish!
Despite their name, silverfish are not really fish, but are instead insects that thrive in warm and wet environments. Homeowners often find these critters in their attics or showers, yet that’s only been a recent home for these pests as they have been around since the Paleozoic era—some 250 million years ago! Over time, these pests have learned how to run really, really fast, and their running motion resembles a fish (as they wiggle and squirm their way away from all types of predators).
Thanks to their great speed, these pests do not have any fangs or carry any venom, as there’s no need for them to have them. But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t ferocious eaters! Silverfish will eat any and all types of starch, including clothing, books, carpeting, and even photos–talk about an expansive palate!
While they look scary, they are anything but. They may be some wacky critters, but you should definitely have them taken care of if you spot them! Silverfish can be pretty tough to get rid of, but when you call in an experienced pest control company they stand no chance.
