Wacky Pest Wednesday: Ticks

 In News

Another Wednesday, and you can guarantee that another edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday is heading your way!  Please join us in our latest edition, Tri-County Pest Control fans, as we talk about the tick!

Oh ticks—the bloodsucking creatures that seem to drain the fun out of anything outdoorsy in the summer months.  While we know that you want to enjoy the outdoors to its fullest extent after the winter we had, we just want to remind you of the fact that ticks can be potentially dangerous creatures, as some may serve as vectors for Lyme’s disease.  Now, this shouldn’t be a cause for concern that keeps you inside all during the spring, but we definitely think that it should be taken into consideration. Wear long pants, apply bug repellent, and check for ticks after spending a day outside—stick to these measures, and you should be good to go.

Did you know that ticks are technically arachnids?  Since they have 8 legs, they belong in the same biological family as spiders, crabs, and scorpions.  Not only that, but they are pretty fearless critters, as they will secure themselves with their back legs on a bush or tree, and use their front legs to grab onto a passing host.  Since this is a rather risky move, many ticks will fall off their perch. On the other hand, some particularly brave ticks will literally jump from a vantage point onto a passing host, landing on them mid-air.  Pretty wacky, huh?

Be sure to stay alert for ticks this season, and remember that you can always call us if you need more information about any pest out there!
