Wacky Pest Wednesday: Fruit Fly

 In News

Happy Wednesday to all you Tri-County Pest Control fans out there, and welcome to our latest edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday!  Today, we invite you to join us today as we cover one of the smallest pests out there: the fruit fly.

Fruit flies are some of the more infamous pests out there, as they have the quality of being extremely hard to remove once you see them; no matter how many of them that you swat at or trap, they still seem to keep on coming.  This can be explained by how they get in your home in the first place, by hitching rides in on fruit, or by finding a window cracked a little too far.  Once inside, they will feed on fermenting organic materials and reproduce at an increased rate, laying their eggs in hard-to-reach spots like your kitchen sink drain or piles in your laundry room.

Did you know that we can give credit to the fruit fly for many scientific advances?  Turns out, these flies have a very diverse gene pool, making them the best specimen to use for genetic research.  In the lab, they’re pretty cool, but outside of it they’re just darn annoying.

The best way to keep these bothersome critters out is to remove the spoiling food in the kitchen, as long with pouring vinegar or bleach down your drain to kill any other eggs.  Fruit fly traps can help, but there is a good chance that it will not rid you  of all the flies.

For the absolute best results with a fruit fly infestation, give the professionals at Tri-County Pest Control a call today.  In no time, we’ll have those flies out for good, and you can be assured that they will stay out.
