Wacky Pest Wednesday: Centipedes

 In News

A very happy Wednesday to you, Tri-County Pest Control fans!  We are here with yet another edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday, and today we invite you to join us, as we cover a very creepy crawly, the centipede.

Centipedes belong to the elite class of “pests that really look creepy.”  These guys can carry up to 177 pairs of legs on their body—depending on the species—and can dart around at incredible speed.  These critters are generally nocturnal and feed on other pests such as spiders, roaches, and worms.  While you may think that keeping a few centipedes around is great for pest control, their venomous fangs beg to differ, as they can inflict a painful bite to the average human.

Typically, centipedes love to hang around dark and damp areas, such as a basement or a corner in a bathroom.  Therefore, by cleaning out the clutter in the basement and making sure that it is well lit, you reduce the chance of a centipede infestation.  In addition, eliminating their food source will also go a long way, as the fewer spiders and roaches you have inside means the fewer centipedes that you may have to deal with.

Generally, the only sign of a centipede infestation is the centipede itself, and left untreated, these guys can live for up to 6 years.  Should you see one, shoot us a call right away to get them out, and keep them out.  Unlike wine or cheese, these pests do not get better with age.
