Wacky Pest Wednesday: Annoying Ants

 In News

Happy Wednesday to all you Tri-County Pest Control fans out there!  We’re back with yet another edition of Wacky Pest Wednesday, and today, we’re covering a pest that we hope you don’t have to deal with during the impending holidays: the ant.

Ants are some of the hardest working pests out there, marching distances far and wide in order to collect food. While they are not picky, they operate chiefly by sense of smell.  Despite their small size, their scent-detection powers are so strong that they can pick up on kitchen scraps up to 100 yards away!

Sure, this is a pretty wacky fact about the ant, but it also gives you a perfect way to defend against them: messing with what they can smell will create a defensive barrier around your home, preventing ants from becoming the nuisance that they can be.  To create an easy, DIY barrier, just grab some peppermint or mint essential oil and sprinkle some around your kitchen. Be sure to apply it by the cabinets and wherever you think ants could come in, or if you have seen ants recently, spray it where they seem to originate from, as this trick also works if you see that you have an ant problem.  By laying down the oil, it will confuse their sense of smell, making them less apt to come into the kitchen in search of a nice snack.. It may seem like a strange idea, hey, don’t knock it until you try it.

Of course, if you have an ant infestation that just isn’t going away, or you want to make sure that your home is free of these pests before the holidays, you know exactly who to call.

Have a great Wednesday, Tri-County Pest Control fans!
